Coronary Heart Disease

The coronary heart disease (CHD) is when the coronary arteries that supply the heart muscle with blood gets gradually blocked by plaque, a waxy substance that is formed by fatty materials. The condition of the plaque building up in the arteries is called Atherosclerosis. This condition can remain for a long period of time, and the plaque can harden and narrow the coronary arteries. Eventually, the plaque breaks open and blood clot forms of the surface of the plaque. A large blood clot also contributes to block the blood flow in the coronary artery. If the oxygenated blood supply to the heart is limited, chest pain and eventually heart attack may occur.
The biggest risk factor for CHD is high blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Cholesterol directly forms plaque, so a high blood cholesterol level increases the amount of plaque formed that can possibly cause Atherosclerosis. Blood cholesterol levels are affected by many factors such as age, gender, diet, physical activity, etc.
Triglycerides are one of the many types of fat found in the bloodstream. It is an energy source for the body. High triglyceride levels are reached by obesity, poorly treated diabetes, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, alcohol, and excess calorie consumption. Triglycerides are also included in some medicine such as steroids, diuretics, birth control pills, and tamoxifen.
Another risk factor of CHD is diabetes. Diabetes occurs when the body’s blood sugar level is too high. Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can cause CHD as the high blood sugar level may lead to increased plaque buildup.

The condition that usually comes with all of the mentioned symptoms is obesity. Obesity is directly linked to other CHD risk factors, so it can reasonably be inferred that high fat diet, which causes obesity, causes the coronary heart disease.

    1. A low fat diet does not necessarily mean that one will not have CHD, because CHD has other risk factors such as fibrous tissue, dead muscle cells, and blood platelets.

Diabetes may cause eye complications, kidney disease, nerve damage, skin complications, and even dental disease

As the others have said, whilst you have given a good and clear overview of what CHD is and what many of the risk factors are, you have not discussed diet and its relationship to CHD. How are cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood related to the types of fats included in the diet.
